404 Day Proclamation photo

Something big happened yesterday at #404Day, and it involves not just Atlanta, but the City of Atlanta. Yes, the government had to get involved.

Councilman Andre Dickens pulled up at Wild Heaven West End yesterday as the official 404 Day celebration took place.

The councilman, wearing a blue “404” shirt and coordinating blue/orange sneakers, delivered some amazing news that not only recognizes Butter.ATL and our partners at Atlanta Influences Everything and ChooseATL, but makes it official that we’ll be celebrating Atlanta every April 4, from now until forever-ever (… forever-ever).

The official proclamation, signed by all members of the Atlanta City Council

Yes, 404 Day is now an official day, so says the City of Atlanta. Nah, but seriously tho. The entire Atlanta City Council signed a proclamation that recognizes 404 Day.

Here’s what it says:

WHEREAS,

As Andre 3000 once said, “The South got something to say,” Atlanta continues to speak its truth as the hip-hop capital of the universe and a global beacon of music, art, innovation, technology, diversity, and the beautiful range and rhythm of human expressions; and

WHEREAS,

404 Day, created by Butter.ATL, Atlanta Influences Everything and ChooseATL first celebrated in 2020; and

WHEREAS,

This event is an Atlanta cultural staple, spotlighting Atlanta’s popular 404 area code and highlighting the city’s music, arts, food and spirits scene; and

WHEREAS,

metro Atlanta region and its proud citizenry have become synonymous with trend-setting and taste-making that influences the State of Georgia, the United States of America and the world; and

WHEREAS,

the City of Atlanta recognizes that an annual celebration of our past, present and future accomplishments across these distinct cultural disciplines is vital to the continuation of this proud reputation in perpetuity; and

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT WE,

the members of the Atlanta City Council, and on behalf of the citizens of Atlanta, do hereby celebrate and acknowledge 404 Day on this 4th day of April 2021 for continuously recognizing and pushing Atlanta culture forward and sharing Atlanta’s unique culture with the world.

We thank the Atlanta City Council for this great recognition. We also thank our family at Atlanta Influences Everything, ChooseATL and all of our other partners in making 404 Day 2021 a massive success — one that was especially wonderful after such a trying year fighting off a global pandemic, and of course Atlanta making such a huge impact on the 2020 election.

And if we can just have a word, we have one thing to say in regards to this honor:

#YEET.
