A History of the White Tee

Before skinny jeans were poppin’, the oversized white tee trend took over fashion trends in Atlanta and is still referenced in Hip Hop today.
If you were living in Atlanta in the early 2000s, no doubt you had a few of these in your closet. The casual fashion staple gained national fame thanks to Dem Franchize Boyz, a rap group out of Bankhead who recorded the 2004 hit “White Tee” in a North Carolina college dorm room.
The song became a hit, resulting in the white tees and baggy clothes trend traveling all over the industry, literally on the backs of rappers like Jay-Z, Gucci Mane, Bow Wow and many more.
In case you missed the iconic era in Atlanta fashion, Butter.ATL’s Twitter threadmaster Donovan Reynolds is here to refresh your memory. Click the tweet below to learn more about how Dem Franchize Boyz had everyone leaning and rocking in these hugely oversized garments, to the point that even an Atlanta rap legend had to at least make a downsizing suggestion.
