Here are Butter.ATL’s Picks for Where to Get Carryout Thanksgiving Dinner
Butter ATLNovember 12, 2021
Turkey Day is just a few weeks away, Atlanta, and we know you probably just have one thing on your mind: the beans, greens, potatoes, tomatoes, lamb, ram, hogs, dogs – you name it!
We also know that it’s been a long year for all of us, and some of us might want to spend more time with the fam being thankful than being stuck in the kitchen all day. So we went ahead and put together our shortlist for some of the best restaurants and food spots to grab your Thanksgiving dinner in the city, for those leisure-inclined individuals.
Our list is by no means definitive, but these are some of our favorites among the standout ATL hotspots servin’ up Thanksgiving goods…
The Busy Bee Cafe
A true Atlanta hallmark that’s been servin’ soul food since 1947, the Busy Bee Café is here to take care of you this Thanksgiving. With recipes that put the “southern” in “soul food”, directly descended from Momma Lucy herself, they’re offering three different packages this year that can cover 4-12 people, or you can build your own order for the fam from delicacies like cornbread dressing, carved turkey breast, blackeye peas, collared greens, and sweet potato pie.
Sweet Auburn BBQ
Popular food truck turned ATL foodie hotspot Sweet Aurburn BBQ, which usually delivers traditional style barbecue with an Asian twist, is throwing its hat in the ring this year with a package of goodies that can feed up to 14 people. Grab you a pasture-raised whole smoked turkey with fixings like wok-fried green beans and creamed corn, and if you feel so inclined, you can splurge and add a chocolate bourbon pecan pie to the mix, too.
Ray’s On The River
For those looking for a slightly more intimate (bougie) Thanksgiving meal, head OTP to Sandy Springs, where Ray’s On The River promises to give you beautiful views of the water and award-winning culinary experiences. They’ll have a grand buffet from 11am – 7pm on the day of Thanksgiving, or you can order from their to-go Thanksgiving menu by November 22nd to pick up the day before turkey day.
Lake & Oak BBQ
Another soulful neighborhood staple, the acclaimed East Atlanta Lake & Oak BBQ is offering a Thanksgiving package that sounds too delicious to be true. Choose between either a whole smoked turkey or smoked turkey breasts, and sides like cheddar, pepperjack, and smoked mac & cheese, herb dressing, and smoked chicken broth collard greens.
CHG Restaurants
The Castellucci Hospitality Group, a family-owned group known for several trendy restaurants across the city, like the Iberian Pig, Cooks & Soldiers, and Bar Mercado, has a “one click” turkey package that comes with everything you need for $295, or a long list of options a la carte to choose from. What makes this holiday option special is they have four different pickup locations around the city to choose from, making it convenient for those coming from any direction.
Tiny Lou’s
Looking to feel a little internationale for this year’s thankful festivities? Tiny Lou’s, the sophisticated Ponce restaurant serving modern takes on French classics, has a Thanksgiving To Go menu that will help the whole family enjoy Parisian tastes. Homemade pumpkin pie, roasted butternut squash and potato hash, and Herbs de Provence Infused Turkey all have our mouths watering.
Peach Cobbler Cafe
Peach Cobbler Café promises to deliver some of the best soul food you’ve ever tasted in your life, and we’re inclined to believe them. If you’re looking for a hot plate of southern comfort food, like smothered turkey wings, cooked-to-order seafood, and their namesake peach cobbler that’s made with Georgia peaches, then head to Peach Cobbler Café. They will be open all day Thanksgiving, so don’t be “slaving over the stove” if you don’t have to.
Grecian Gyro
Step outside the usual and host a big fat Greek Thanksgiving this year with Grecian Gyro’s holiday catering packages. Not only do they have feast packages fit to feed an army (like their Grecian Feast package, which includes a choices of entree, Greek salad, spanakopita, pita, hummus, Grecian potatoes, AND baklava for $19 per person), they will also be offering free meals for the less fortunate at their Forest Park and Tucker locations.
Cremalosa
Decatur’s sweet treat spot serving up Georgia’s best ice cream (according to Food & Wine Magazine, at least) Cremalosa will be offering fresh and frozen baked goods to enjoy all throughout the holiday season, at their first ever Cremalosa Holiday Marketplace. Hummingbird cakes with maple mascarpone gelato, mini pecan and pumpkin pies, and other sweet treats will all be available on a first come, first served basis.
Hebrew Bakes
You didn’t think we forgot about all the vegan foodies out there, did you? Hebrew Bakes, the delicious (and affordable) vegan bake shop located in the heart of one of Atlanta’s most historic Black neighborhoods, has a whole range of seasonal sweets they’re serving up. Sweet potato pie, apple pie, blueberry cobblers, cheesecakes— whatever your Thanksgiving sweet tooth is craving, they’ve got you covered. They’re even teaching a live course on how to make vegan sides and entrees, too, so you can impress that vegan aunty of yours.
