Why We’re Excited/Nervous About Tonight’s Verzuz Between Gucci Mane & Jeezy
Mike JordanNovember 19, 2020
Welp, it looks like it’s actually going to happen tonight! Atlanta trap titans Gucci Mane and Jeezy are going at each other live — musically only, we hope — from right chea in ATL, for the Season 2 premiere of Swizz Beatz’ and Timbaland’s song battle series Verzuz.
Both Jeezy and Gucci are doing their parts to promote with a little shit-talk on social. Jeezy is freshening up his wardrobe, while Gucci power-walks up and down hilly terrains.
Most folks familiar with these two gentlemen’s historical relationship would tell you this was a very unlikely turn of events. But both men have grown immensely since the days of “So Icy,” and the fallout from the origination of their beef; just watch Charlamagne Tha God’s interviews with Gucci and Jeezy for context.
It’s also undoubtedly what fans everywhere, and especially in Atlanta, want.
WE’RE NERVOUS AF! BECAUSE:
Someone died.
Death is the kinda thing that makes it all feel just a little less whimsical, you know?
The “old Gucci” has been popping up more lately.
It’s important to remember that just a year ago, even with all the positive GuWop energy, there was a lil’ issue with members of The Breakfast Club who aren’t named Charlamagne Tha God. He also didn’t mind sharing a fan’s post about how he ended up killing one of Jeezy’s friends, in case anyone thought it was all love.
Jeezy isn’t exactly shying away from his street side either.
Big Sno dropped a new single “Therapy For My Soul,” on Tuesday, and threw a few darts in various directions, most notably at his former CTE artist Freddie Gibbs. Gibbs, as he is wont to do, responded with bravado, ridicule and gusto. Some beefs may settle, but new beef is always getting butchered, broiled and served every day, b.
BUT WE’RE EXCITED TOO! BECAUSE:
These two have HITS.
Just yesterday Gucci asked his IG followers what songs they wanted to hear. Comments: LIT.
This is a very mature thing to (at least attempt to) do.
With so much recent gun violence in rap, it’s cool to see two grown men who’ve quite literally survived a lot make an attempt to put the past aside as an example for young rappers today and for the good of the culture.
Atlanta wins either way.
The fact that everybody’s excited about this is yet another reason Atlanta is the greatest city on Earth.
